2023 Nissan Kicks

The Nissan Kicks starts off the Nissan SUV lineup as the subcompact, entry-level crossover occupying the space vacated by the funky Nissan Juke that came before it. Unlike the Juke, the 2023 Kicks has a more traditional crossover design that’s sure to appeal more to the masses, but it’s still a sharp-looking crossover with distinct Nissan design cues, including a relatively sporty look and the V-motion grille.

Powering the 2023 Nissan Kicks is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that pushes 122 horsepower (hp) and 114 pound-feet (lb-ft) of torque through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and out to the front wheels. The Kicks is exclusively a front-wheel-drive (FWD) vehicle and doesn’t offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option.

As a subcompact SUV, the Kicks has limited interior space, including only 824.3 mm of rear legroom, making it ideal for empty nesters or those with younger kids. Teens and adults will find the rear seats a little too tight. Cargo space is also limited at just 716.4 litres with the rear seats upright and 914.6 litres with the rear seats folded. And if you’re looking to tow a trailer, the Kicks isn’t the right Nissan SUV for you, as Nissan doesn’t recommend towing with it.

The Kicks does have plenty of desirable standard features, including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, three USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, automatic high beams, and more.

The 2023 Nissan Kicks’ MSRP starts from $21,698, making it a strong value. However, the Kicks has been around for a while, so you may find a used Nissan Kicks from the 2021 model year for a few thousand dollars less.

2023 Nissan Qashqai

The 2023 Nissan Qashqai is slightly larger than the Kicks, but it still falls into the subcompact crossover segment. The Qashqai features a swoopier design than the Kicks, appealing to a different type of buyer.

Under the Qashqai’s hood is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 141 hp and 147 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels or all four wheels with optional AWD. Like the Kicks, the Qashqai comes standard with a CVT.

The Qashqai’s rear seats offer the same legroom as the Kicks, and its cargo room with the rear seats upright is less than the Kicks at 566 to 648 litres. However, with the rear starts folded, this expands to 1,730 litres. Towing is not recommended in the Qashqai.

The Qashqai is pretty well-equipped. It comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a four-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, automatic high beams, and more.

The Qashqai’s base MSRP rings in at $25,498, but you may find a used Qashqai from the 2021 model year with many of the same features starting at around $22,000.

2023 Nissan Rogue

Next in the Nissan SUV lineup is the Rogue, the automaker’s compact SUV. The Rogue has been a part of the Nissan SUV lineup for many years and once included a Rogue Sport variant that acted as Nissan’s entry-level model.

The 2023 Rogue comes standard with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 181 hp and 181 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels via a CVT. In higher trims, the Rogue comes with a 1.5-litre turbo three-cylinder that delivers 201 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque paired with standard AWD.

The Rogue offers lots more rear legroom compared to its subcompact siblings at 978 mm, making it a comfortable fit for most teens and adults. It also has good cargo space that ranges from 1,028 litres with the rear seat up to 2,098 litres with them folded. With the base engine, the Rogue can tow up to 612 kg, while the turbo engine pushes this to 680 kg.

The Rogue’s standard features are rather generous. They include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, dual-zone automatic climate control, a four-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, automatic high beams, driver awareness warning, and more.

All this comes at a starting MSRP of $33,248. Since the Rogue is a relatively popular model with a strong used market, you may find a used Nissan Rogue in the 2021 model year with similar features starting at around $27,000.

2023 Nissan Murano

Next in the Nissan SUV lineup is the more niche Murano, the automaker’s premium compact SUV. The Murano spans the gap between compact and midsize, and it offers more upscale features and better performance. It’s almost like the Nissan Maxima of SUVs.

The 2023 Murano comes standard with a 3.5-litre V6 engine that delivers 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels via a CVT. With this powertrain, the Murano can tow up to 680 kg.

The Murano has decent rear legroom at 981.9 mm, so it’s a good fit for teens and adults. Its cargo space is a little tight for its larger footprint at 909 litres with the rear seat up to 1,897 litres with them folded.

Wonder what your car is worth?

As Nissan’s more upscale SUV, the Murano’s standard features are robust. 2023 Nissan ARIYA

Finally, we come to the most unique model in the Nissan SUV lineup, the ARIYA. The 2023 Nissan ARIYA is an all-electric SUV that now gives Nissan two electric cars — the LEAF and ARIYA.

The ARIYA has four powertrain options, starting with the standard unit that pushes 214 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. The next powertrain bumps it to 238 hp and still has standard FWD. The third powertrain delivers 335 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. Finally, the range-topping powertrain delivers 389 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels.

The ARIYA has two battery pack options, a standard 66-kWh unit and an optional 91-kWh unit. The larger battery is standard in every trim other than the base Engage trim. This gives it a range of 330 km to 490 km, depending on the trim level.
